1984 - 1991 MS/PhD at Institute of Engineering Mechanics, Chines Academy of Science, Harbin.

1991 - 1994, Associate professor/Postdoc in the Department of Civil Engineering, Tsinghua University, Beijing

1994 – 1996, Alexander von Humboldt research fellow at Technical University Berlin, Germany

1996 - 1997, Visiting research fellow at Nanyang Technological University in Singapore

1997 - 1999, Research fellow at Washington State University, US.

2000 - present  ExxonMobil Development Company, US.
